Family immigration and reuniting loved ones hold special significance for us. Attorney Farah Kamal, a dedicated family immigration lawyer based in Houston, Texas, deeply appreciates the importance of family immigration for our clients. She understands the emotional and financial complexities of the process, which can often be overwhelming and intimidating.

The Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) classifies family member visas into two categories:

  • Immediate Relative: This category includes a U.S. citizen's parents, spouse, and unmarried children under the age of 21.

Family Preference: Family preference visas have four sub-categories:

  • First Preference: Adult (21 years or older) children of U.S. citizens who are unmarried.

  • Second Preference: Legal permanent resident's spouse, unmarried sons and daughters, and their children.

  • Third Preference: U.S. citizen's married sons and daughters, their spouses, and minor children.

  • Fourth Preference: U.S. citizen's brothers and sisters, their spouses, and minor children.

While there is no numerical limit on immediate relative visas, the demand for "family preference" visas often exceeds the available quotas. Navigating the requirements, paperwork, and procedures necessary to bring a family member to the United States can be a challenging task.
